This week in SGA

This is a new feature for The Independent. Every week, we're going to try to bring you a short article covering the week's Student Government meeting. We know, it's hard work, but we could use the nap time, and you should probably stay informed. Who knows, if you don't pay attention to these guys, they might sneak a bar on campus.
This week's meeting, then, began on a disappointing note. Since so many people were absent, SGA failed to meet quorum. In other words, SGA didn't have enough people present to conduct certain types of business like passing resolutions, etc.
Despite this, the meeting began, and the Executive Officers gave their weekly reports.
Adam Cowdin, the President, recognized Eric Weiss and Jamie Bell for their hard work.
Lauren Williams, Secretary, spoke on the excessive absences some members were accumulating. She pointed out that after three unexcused absences SGA members are booted, but that the grace period would be extended to four. (SGA actually removed several members in recent weeks, and will be holding special elections to replace them.)
Tommy Thompson, Executuve Senator, asked for a second roll call. The required number of members were present, and quorum was established.
Christina Gomez, Treasurer, and Christian Porter, SGA Vice President, made no report.
They then moved on to committee reports.
Business Affairs is studying the visitors to the Roadrunner Cafe and considering putting an ad in the Paisano to boost student awareness. (Roadrunner Cafe is the eatery near Chaparral Village; apparently business has been below expectations. You should go check it out, it might beat JPL cafeteria lines.)
Business Affairs is also looking at the parking issue. The committee mentioned that a road being built between the Arts Building and Lot 13 will open in Spring 07, and should cut shuttle times to that lot from 15 to 6 minutes.
The parking permits will also change. In the 07-08 school year, 4 additional permits will be available, general and garage permits good either in the night or the day.
